History

Rush Creek Christian Church began in April of 1978. The initial group of disciples gathered at Key Elementary School until they were able to move to a permanent site. Rev. Dr. Dick Lord was called as the founding pastor in that initial year. Rev. Dr. Lord served until the spring of 2006 and completed a 28-year ministry at Rush Creek.  He was well respected for his keen intellect, gentle preaching style, and peaceful presence in the Arlington community.

The church moved to its current location at Green Oaks and Bowen (next to Wimbledon Park) in 1980 and built a small multipurpose room that functioned as worship, study, fellowship, and office space. Since then, we have expanded our campus 3 times as our church and ministry needs have grown and as our neighborhood has changed.  In our current sanctuary, our cornerstone was added.  It reads “A House of Prayer for ALL.”  This is our continued commitment to our community: to be a house of prayer where all of God’s children feel welcomed and loved.

Sharing the Life and Love of Jesus

Children and Youth

Rush Creek has a long history of serving families in the community with a preschool program. This ministry started as a Mothers Day Out program and is now called Rush Creek Christian Academy. The Academy celebrates 40 years of caring for children in 2024. The Academy has created a reputation for care and nurture of children in southwest Arlington.

We also have developed a strong love for children and youth throughout the church’s ministry. Discipleship of young people has been and continues to be one of our highest priorities as a congregation.  For over 25 years, RCCC has supported our youth taking a summer mission trip where they spend a week serving others.

Mission and Outreach

After the September 11th attacks in 2001, members of Rush Creek started Daughters of Abraham.  The Daughters of Abraham is a group of Muslim, Jewish and Christian women who meet monthly to seek peace through conversation and community.

The church has had a strong witness of outreach to many of the local programs and needs of Arlington.  For over 15 years our drip irrigation kits have been sent around the world to help reduce food insecurity in developing nations.  In 2020, Rush Creek began a partnership with St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church to start a mobile food pantry which gives away food to almost 400 families each month.

After Dr. Lord’s retirement, Rev. Dr. Christopher Wilson became Senior Pastor in the spring of 2007.  He served RCCC until March of 2020.  In 2023, Rev. Tiff Williams was called to serve as the 3rd Senior Pastor of Rush Creek.  The church is currently dreaming about what sorts of ministries God is calling us to for the next 50 years of life and love.
